FREDDY is a solar module with a nominal output of 70 watts. FREDDY contains back-contacted Sunpower® solar cells with an efficiency of over 22%. The FREDDY surface is made of ETFE. This plastic has similar properties to Teflon and is therefore dirt-repellent. ETFE is more translucent than other plastics and extremely heat-resistant. In addition, a fine structure made of microlenses is incorporated into the surface of FREDDY. These catch the light better and focus it on the solar cells. As a result, more light is converted into electricity and less is reflected. Because ETFE is also a very light material, FREDDY only weighs 1.1 kg, 80% less than conventional solar modules made of glass. FREDDY contains 6 êyelets for mounting. The open circuit voltage of FREDDY is 39.6 volts which is safe at all times, even if destroyed.
